What is a GSR?
GSR stands for Game Streams Rank. It is a system we developed to track the viewership statistics of all the live broadcasters in the video gaming community across the top streaming services (a.k.a. providers).
How are Game Streams Ranks generated?
We track viewership data for all public broadcasts in the gaming categories of all the providers we support. We calculate a daily, weekly, and monthly rating for each broadcaster based on their channel's viewer statistics compared to the total number of viewers watching gaming-related streams across all the providers during that period of time. The broadcaster's Game Streams Rank is determined directly from these ratings — the broadcaster with the highest rating is ranked #1 for that period, and so on from there.
How frequently are the GSR charts updated?
The Daily GSR Chart is updated periodically throughout the day. The Weekly and Monthly GSR Charts are updated once per day, usually between 12:30am and 2:00am PT (3:30am and 5:00am ET).
What does the "Change" column on the charts represent?
The "Change" column displays the number of spots a channel has moved up or down since the immediately preceding period for that specific GSR type (e.g. monthly, weekly, or daily). If a channel did not appear in the immediately preceding charts for that GSR type, then a dash ("-") will appear in the change column the next time it does appear.
Example: If a channel appeared at rank #42 for the month of May, 2011, and then at rank #39 for the month of June, 2011, the change would be "+3". If the channel did not appear on the July, 2011 charts (i.e. they did not broadcast that month), and then re-appeared in the August, 2011 charts, the change column would be a "-" for that month.
What does the "Consecutive" column on the charts represent?
The "Consecutive" column displays the consecutive number of days, weeks or months a broadcaster has appeared in the respective Top 100 GSR chart at the time the chart was generated. If a broadcaster's rank drops out of the Top 100 for a given period, the "Consecutive" column will be reset to 1 the next time they do appear.
What does the "Peak" column on the charts represent?
The "Peak" column displays the highest rank a broadcaster has previously achieved on a GSR chart of that type (e.g. monthly, weekly, or daily) at the time the chart was generated (e.g. If you are viewing an older chart, the "Peak" on that chart may not reflect the highest rank a broadcaster has achieved if they achieved a higher rank on a later chart).
What does the "Rating" column on the charts represent?
Please see the question "How are Game Streams Ranks generated?" for information on how ratings are generated.
I don't appear in the Top 100 GSR charts. How can I find out my GSR?
You can look up any broadcasters' GSR at WhatsYourGSR.com!
How accurate are the ratings?
Our ratings are as accurate as the numbers reported by each individual provider, which we believe to be quite accurate. Aside from that, some minor inaccuracies may be introduced due to temporary downtime and errors returned by the providers, but we have found these instances to be very minimal. Compared to traditional rating systems for television and radio which extrapolate ratings from small samples of the population, our ranking system is extremely accurate.
What streaming services (a.k.a. providers) are tracked for the GSR charts?
Currently broadcasts in the gaming categories at Livestream, own3D.tv, reGame.tv, TwitchTV (a.k.a. Justin.tv) and Ustream are tracked.
I use a streaming service that you don't currently track. How can I get a GSR?
Please post a message in our Feedback Forum to let us know what provider you are using and we'll do our best to add support for it.
How do I avoid having my channel show up in duplicate spots?
If you use a provider that supports having multiple channels under one user account (e.g. Ustream) make sure you do not delete and re-create your channel, especially if you just mean to rename the title (for example). If you do this you are essentially creating a new, second channel, and it will be tracked as such by our system. If you believe your channel has appeared as a duplicate for another reason, please contact us and we'll try and sort it out for you.
Why is my rank reported as "N/A" for a period that I broadcast during?
We must have tracked you with at least 1 viewer while you were broadcasting in order to assign you a GSR. If we saw you online with never more than zero (0) viewers, you will be assigned a rank of "N/A'.
