“We will make the first of many enhancements to update the look and feel of the site, and to make content more readily accessible and discoverable by viewers. Key amongst these changes is a beautiful new front page redesign. You’ll notice that the new front page is more viewer-friendly with more and better images and information attached to each featured stream.

This is the first step on a long journey. Many changes and feature enhancements are to come as we work to improve the site for the whole community. We hope you embrace the new look and feel of Twitch and we greatly anticipate your feedback.”

reGame.tv Closing Down, Premium Invite Only Platform to Come in July

Posted by on May 7th, 2012

reGame Closing Down

Gaming focused streaming service provider reGame.tv has recently announced it will be closing it’s doors.

It’s reason for this decision is the cost to operate and the stiff competition from TwitchTV and own3D.tv

However, don’t let the “closing our doors” statement make you think that you won’t be seeing them around anymore. They have announced that they will be launching a premium invite only streaming platform that they claim will allow them to provide much higher revenue share for partners (5 EUR / CPM) as well as a better service all round. Look for reGame.tv 2.0 to launch in July. They have put up a countdown timer on their website.

YouTube Live Adds Live Comments and Watching Now to Stream Pages

Posted by on March 6th, 2012

YouTube Live Comments

YouTube live is slowly trying to become a player in the live streaming industry. Since its launch back in April, 2011 I have always felt there was something missing with the service. That something was interactivity. YouTube has recently tried to solve that issue by adding in live comments. Using a comment system rather then an IRC based chat allows them to have a few features that the other providers cannot currently offer. Comments can be Up and Down voted as well as replied to, users can also add video replies in the live comments. In its present form I feel that once chats become busy like all popular stream chats do that this format will fail at providing an enjoyable chat experience.

See it in action at http://www.youtube.com/live

Update March 26: YouTube has added Live Viewer metrics so you can so how many people are Watching Now. Pic after the break.
